You might think, that’s not good, but sometimes accidents happen.
However, as the truth comes out, we realize that accidents are more likely to happen when idiots are involved.
It turns out that Kunce was shooting at heavy steel plates, with a rifle, from about ten yards away. What???!!! What sort of idiot does that? Of course there was shrapnel flying about, if you’re going to partake in that kind of tomfoolery. The idiot is lucky that a full-on ricochet didn’t hit a bystander.
What sort of nutcase would shoot a rifle into a heavy steel plate from ten yards away? Has Lucas Kunce never been trained in basic firearms safety?
Well, it turns out that Kunce served in the US Marine Corps. So, in that case, how can he be so stupid? Apparently his main job in the military was serving as a judge-advocate (military lawyer); but, even so, he would have trained with firearms.
So, if Kunce has already been trained with proper firearms usage, that would mean he has no excuse — the man is just an idiot.
A commenter on YouTube caustically said “Apparently Adam Kinzinger went to the Alec Baldwin Shooting Academy”. That comment is not far off the mark, although the idiocy involved with that movie set situation caused a death, rather than just a minor flesh wound.
Another commenter on YouTube remarked “Welcome to the Dick Cheney School of Firearms Safety”. Yet another one cuttingly said “When I heard he was Marine, I knew he had to be an officer” (a lot of enlisted men would chuckle and nod their heads knowingly at that one).
When you look at some of the photos from the incident, it can be seen that the small home-made shooting range backs onto a wooded area, where it is quite likely that you cannot see if a pet or a small child was playing in the background.
If a youngster was playing in the trees, unseen, and was shot, then the outcome could have been a terrible and fatal tragedy.
The best way to shoot a rifle on a range is to fire into an area which has a dirt mound, berm, or rise, directly behind it; or to have the targets at the bottom of a hill (i.e. having dirt behind the targets). If you are going to shoot at something which is quite close, it should be something thin, like paper or cardboard (or maybe tin cans, depending on the distance). Only an idiot would shoot close-up at heavy steel plates (or rocks, for that matter), because the chances of ricochets would be quite high.
Sean Davis, on X, posted several criticisms of that day’s shooting range shenanigans. It’s worth a read. Davis ended his post with the cutting comment “Absolutely mind-blowing insanity from a candidate for a political party that wants to take away your guns because it claims you can’t safely own them.”
The mainstream media would have gone hard on the hapless politician, and crucified him, if he was a Republican; but since the idiot was a Left-wing politician, not a Right-wing one, they went easy on him.
Perhaps the best bit of propaganda came from Newsweek; their headline for an article regarding the incident was “Reporter hit by shrapnel at shooting range, Democrat gives first aid”, which makes it sound like a Leftist Democrat was standing nearby when a firearms accident occurred, and he rushed in to help. That’s like reporting on the German concentration camps in the 1930s, with the headline “Jews locked up in camps, Hitler provides them with food” — technically, it’s true; but, in reality, the headline is deliberately not conveying the situation accurately. Whoever came up with that Newsweek headline is a great propagandist, but not someone you could trust.
A more accurate headline would have conveyed the story’s essentials, e.g. “Democrat recklessly shoots, causing ricochet to hit reporter”. Although a better headline would be “Ex-military Leftist, who is somehow ignorant of gun safety, causes reporter to be hit by shrapnel”.
The funny thing is that in a political video created by Lucas Kunce, he trolled one of his Republican opponents, saying “I’ll give you one U.S. Marine’s lead weapons training class”. Thankfully, the Republican didn’t take him up on his offer, or there might have been bits of shrapnel flying all around the place.
But, just in case you think all Democratic politicians are idiots — also present on the day, and shooting on the same stupid range, was Adam Kinzinger, a former Representative for the Republican Party. He also served with the US military. In his case, he served with the Air Force as a pilot. Presumably, he underwent some firearms training; but, as a pilot, he wouldn’t have been lugging a rifle around all day, so maybe he’s got some kind of excuse. However, shooting at heavy steel plates from a close distance would seem to indicate that the man lacks common sense.
Indeed, one of the photos of the event shows Kinzinger aiming at a target, whilst wearing his eye protection glasses on his head, not over his eyes!
And these are the type of people who make laws for American gun owners.
